Celebrating talent, technology, ideas and innovation

AfriGIS Managing Director, Magnus Rademeyer, presented at this year’s Mastering SAP with Business Analytics conference, which was hosted by the Eventful Group at the Hyatt Hotel in Rosebank on 13 – 14 March 2017.

His presentation titled “Dealing with Your Master Customer Data: ‘WHERE’ are they?” provided a 101 overview of the boundary challenges South Africans have created, the challenges faced as a result thereof and how we are dealing with it.

Rademeyer highlighted lessons learnt and how current challenges are being addressed; from Know Your Customer (KYC) and Risk analysis in terms of geography, through to why an SA Postal Code is not a ZIP-Code and how this impacts corporate South Africa on a day to day basis.

Due to the country’s history there are different sets of boundaries fulfilling different purposes. Postal codes for example, are historically used as natural guidelines for planning and costing purposes in various corporate and government environments. Unfortunately this can result in substantial challenges in terms of Master Data Management.

Some interesting information illustrating this – did you know that the Postal Street Code for Centurion is 0157 and that it covers an area of no less than 86 suburbs with just under a quarter of a million of people, with an average household income ranging from R22k to R1.2 million?

At AfriGIS, this forms part of our daily quest to bring information about location to life.
It boils down to granularity; you can only get better results if you know exactly WHERE your customers are. Data accuracy is crucial for success and the quality of your end-results and services.

AfriGIS powers some of South Africa’s largest corporate and government users with geographical master data. The AfriGIS core datasets are differentiated by the fact that they have a unique identifier that never changes. This enables customers to keep track of name changes, specific activities at the address and various other risk and KYC related attributes over a long period of time.

AfriGIS is a member of AfriGIS is a member of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), the International Standards Organisation task team on addresses (ISOTC211) and the International Cartographic Association (ICA). AfriGIS master address datasets are compliant with the SANS 1883 address standard.
