Delivery Manager
Introduction
We are seeking a Delivery Manager who will be responsible for ensuring the coordinated planning, prioritisation, resourcing, and on-time delivery of all projects and products to clients. Operating through a Project Management Office (PMO) model, the role will work closely with Project Managers (for projects) and Product Owners (for products) to provide portfolio oversight, resource scheduling, delivery governance, and delivery assurance.
The Delivery Manager will enable consistent, predictable, and high-quality delivery across the organisation.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
- Relevant Degree in either Process Engineering or Information Technology.
- Relevant delivery, project, or agile qualifications.
- 8+ years proven experience in a Delivery Manager, PMO, or portfolio delivery role.
- Strong delivery, portfolio, or programme management expertise in the field of software development projects.
- Experience working with multiple Project Managers and Product Owners in parallel.
- Strong background in client-facing delivery environments.
- Advanced resource planning and capacity management capability.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers and Product Owners.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Analytical, structured, and outcome-focused mindset.
- Have a working understanding of technology components utilised in delivery.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
Delivery Governance & Operating Model
- Lead and mature the delivery governance framework across projects and products.
- Define and maintain delivery standards, methodologies, tools, and reporting.
- Ensure consistent delivery practices across Project Managers and Product Owners.
- Provide delivery oversight, assurance, and escalation across the portfolio.
Line Management & Capability Leadership
- Provide direct line management to Project Managers, including performance management, coaching, and professional development.
- Ensure Project Managers are appropriately assigned, supported, and enabled to deliver their projects successfully.
- Where applicable, provide line management or functional leadership to other shared delivery resources such as Business Analysts.
Portfolio & Delivery Oversight
- Maintain an integrated view of all active and planned projects and products.
- Monitor delivery progress, milestones, dependencies, and risks across the portfolio.
- Act as the primary escalation point for cross-project and cross-product delivery issues.
- Support prioritisation decisions to ensure alignment with client commitments and business strategy.
Resource Scheduling & Capacity Management
- Own the planning, allocation, and scheduling of shared and dedicated resources across projects and products.
- Work closely with Project Managers and Product Owners to understand delivery plans, capacity requirements, and constraints.
- Balance competing priorities and resolve resource conflicts in a transparent and data-driven manner.
- Maintain short-, medium-, and long-term resource capacity and demand forecasts.
- Identify key skills required in alignment with roadmaps and functional managers.
Collaboration with Project Managers & Product Owners
- Partner with Project Managers to support robust project planning, tracking, and delivery execution.
- Partner with Product Owners to align product roadmaps with delivery capacity and client timelines.
- Facilitate effective collaboration between project and product delivery streams.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support on estimation, planning, dependency management, and delivery best practices.
Client Engagement, Scoping & Costing
- Lead or contribute to effort estimation, delivery planning, and costing models to ensure commercially viable and achievable proposals.
- Collaborate with sales, account management, and delivery teams to scope client initiatives and translate requirements into delivery approaches.
- Validate delivery assumptions, dependencies, risks, and resource requirements during scoping and bid processes.
- Act as a senior delivery representative in client engagements, supporting pre-sales, discovery, and ongoing client relationship management.
Stakeholder & Client Delivery Assurance
- Provide leadership and senior stakeholders with clear, accurate delivery status and performance reporting.
- Support client-facing teams by ensuring delivery commitments are realistic, achievable, and well-governed.
- Build confidence in delivery outcomes through transparency, predictability, and proactive risk management.
Reporting & Performance Management
- Develop and maintain portfolio-level delivery dashboards and reports.
- Track key delivery metrics including timelines, resource utilisation, and delivery health.
- Enable data-driven decision-making for leadership and governance forums.
Continuous Improvement & Capability Development
- Identify and drive improvements in delivery efficiency, predictability, and quality.
- Capture lessons learned across projects and products and embed continuous improvement.
- Support the ongoing development of Project Manager and Product Owner capability across the organisation.
